Reeve Violins, L.L.C

Even though they are internationally known, they are a still a family run shop that sells and repairs violins, violas, cellos, basses and their bows in all sizes and price ranges. Although they helped their father Dave in the shop from an early age, they didn’t decide to commit to the family business until after sampling college and other jobs. Lucas is the varnish expert, and Tyrel has a discriminating feel for wood graduations and bass bars. Together they collaborate on creating exceptional new instruments with a tone and response that rivals the old masters. Dave and Paula are proud that, as 4th generation luthiers, sons Tyrel and Lucas are continuing the family tradition.

David L. Reeve is a third generation luthier. Born in St. Louis, he learned his craft from his Grandfather, P. C. Bearden, and furthered his studies with many prominent makers and repairmen including the legendary Simone Sacconi. He began making his own violins at a young age, and his instruments are in the hands of many well-known soloists and performers worldwide. His restorations of valuable antique instruments are justly famous for their beauty, structural integrity and tonal excellence.

James Goodall guitar

James Goodall represents an artisan who is at the pinnacle of his profession. Superb craftsmanship, an exacting finesse for detail and wood choice, combined with robust, three dimensional sound character — these are qualities which embody every James Goodall guitar. Few who endeavor in musical instrument making are capable of consistently maintaining a high level of precision and excellence along with superior tonal character in every instrument. Discerning eyes and ears will find the substance of all these qualities in every James Goodall instrument. James Goodall approaches guitar making in the way he approaches most things in his life — with perfectionism, intensity, resourcefulness, persistence, and vision. At one time, he set out creating and building modern symphony flutes.

Today, Goodall is amazed to observe the unfolding careers of his numerous instrument building friends who lived in the area: Greg Deering, Geoff Stelling, and Larry and Kim Breedlove. “When they were kids,” Goodall recalls, “Larry and Kim took art lessons from my mother. Kim Breedlove and I were on the same little league team, and his father was the coach.” When Goodall undertook his initial guitar building project, it was without any previous wood shop experience, and with minimal assistance. His father, though, was a wood carver and picture framer and loaned James a table saw, bandsaw, and router.
