Balloon Drums

January 9th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in 123 Triad

Balloon Drums The balloon drum is a simple and exciting musical instrument made by stretching a non-inflated round balloon over a pot or bowl. The sound each drum makes varies depending on the size of the container, the material it is made of, and the sizes and brands of balloons that are used.

The idea for balloon drums comes from Addi Somekh, a balloon twister known mainly for his work with balloon hats. Balloon drums are great tools for teaching kids about rhythm. A regular drum set can be expensive, loud, hard to store, and intimidating to play. But a balloon drum set is inexpensive to make, easy to store, and will not annoy the neighbors. Best of all, balloon drums are so colorful and fun sounding that they capture and hold kids’ attention and interest.
