Acoustic Outfitters Music Shop

January 7th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 Triad

Acoustic Outfitters Music Shop was founded as a sole proprietorship in 1996 by Gary Filgate. Gary, a life long musician and accomplished banjo player, started the business out of his home, selling musical accessories and instruments at Blugrass festivals throughout New England. At the end of the 1996 summer festival season, he and his now wife Alison Magill, found their basement full of merchandise needing a home. Together with their friend Brian Ashford, the trio decided to open a retail music store in Stratham. Gary had nearly a decade experience at other music stores, including a stint with Liberty Banjo in CT, where he learned to make and repair banjos.

Over the years, he developed strong relationships with musical instrument vendors and the knowledge needed to operate a musical instrument shop. Using his relationships and his experiences, Gary started his business, opening the day after Thanksgiving in 1996. They literally painted the wall that morning at 8am then opened the doors at 10, Gary recalls. The shop started with a few used instruments, some Kentucky Mandolins and a Santa Cruz Tony Rice model in stock. They quickly secured the dealerships from Martin and Taylor guitars and were on their way. Repairs are done in-house or by independent dealer certified repair technicians and they also offer lessons, rentals, workshops and other services.

Frustrated at having to travel so far south to indulge in his passion for squeezeboxes and handmade acoustic instruments, now was the time for a career change. Consequently, he identified a niche market for a traditional music shop on Scotland’s picturesque N.E coast in the lovely seaside town of Stonehaven. They endeavour to provide a friendly relaxed atmosphere in their shop with customer focus and best in class after sales service being one of their main objectives.

Primordial Percussion

January 2nd, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 Triad

The Primordial Percussion drum circle and djembe drumming website can help you find information about various hand drumming services and products. They hope you find this drumming website informative and enjoyable. Their goal is to provide you with drum circle and djembe drumming resources, contacts and events which inspire and assist you. Primordial Percussion is a diversifed drumming company located in Stratford, Ontario, which was founded in 2001 by Cliff Patton. They have been manufacturing djembe, ashiko, frame and djundjun drums since that time. They also offer a professional djembe repair service for customers who need djembe skin replacements, tuning or customization.

Primordial (the beginning) Percussion (two objects that strike together and produce sound). As the name implies, the very first sound, is a concept that all people can relate too. All of us have been touched by sound and music at some time in their lives. Many have forgotten at this time but the heart beats on, the heartbeat was the very first sound they would have familiarized themselves with in their mothers womb. It is for this reason they named the company Primordial Percussion. It is my belief that all people have this deep connection to sound, so they all can connect easily to the beating of the drums both privately and in group settings.

Dave Dudley, the long-time manager of Song Bird Music, decided to turn his experience and passion for drums into his own drum shop and fill the void left by the store where he used to help musicians and music lovers. They felt that Ottawa had a need for its own drum shop and hopefully with a combination of my many years of experience as a drummer and a drum retailer, the unique qualities that each of their staff brings, and with input from their customers, they will be able to make Daves Drum Shop a huge success, says Dudley. Daves Drum Shop provides quality drum and percussion products and services. Just like its predecessor, it offers used equipment, trade-ins, repairs and custom work.

The popular no-hassle consignment service also continues to be offered for those who want to sell their gear. You can also find excellent vintage gear at reasonable prices. Durdel’s Music

December 31st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 Triad

Since 1946, Durdel’s Music has had the reputation of selling quality instruments and providing excellent customer service. they set up EVERY instrument when it comes in to make sure that it meets their standards of quality and playability. Many local musicians trust only Durdel’s for the set-up and care of their guitars. Their staff of instructors have always excelled in teaching how to play the instruments they sell. Even before Cliff and Ruth purchased the store from the Blauseys’ in 1946, Ruth had been teaching lap steel guitar for about six years at the “Stars of Tomorrow Studios” with Wilson and Paulina Blausey.

At that time, students were enrolled by going door to door. They gave group lessons of 6-10 people for lap steel classes. There was also a radio show where ‘Uncle Abe’ helped to recruit students. Late in the forties, they brought in their first two non-steel teachers, Vicki Pasorik & Carl Russell, both taught steel and Spanish guitar. The fifties brought out the first solid body Fender electrics, and Durdel’s was there to lead the way as the first Northwestern Ohio and Southeast Michigan dealer for Fender electric guitars. Many developments were taking shape during these years, and the companies were eager to hear what the dealers had to suggest. The new decade brought the addition of the Central Ave store. For the first year, the building was shared with a bakery (in the long section of the store), and a hairdresser, Marcella Chor, in the rear of the store, (facing Haughton).
