Pantheon Guitars

January 13th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 Triad

Pantheon Guitars was formed in October, 2000 when Dana Bourgeois, a well known master luthier, and a set of new business investors came together. Dana and Bourgeois Guitars had, up to that point, crafted over 1,000 of the finest acoustic instruments played by musicians around the world. At that time, having designed and built guitars for more than a quarter of a century, it was exciting for Dana to be part of Pantheon Guitars and combine strong business resources, marketing capability and great guitar building into the same organization. Together, everyone at Pantheon Guitars is working to be the best “small shop” acoustic guitar builder in the world, and Dana, now, part of Pantheon Guitars, has the opportunity to focus on designing and building instruments of the highest quality and making Bourgeois guitars the best they can be.

All Pantheon guitars are handcrafted in Maine and carry the Bourgeois headstock signature which guarantees a level of quality that players and enthusiasts alike come to expect in fine steel string acoustic instruments. Located in an 1840’s mill in Lewiston, Maine, Dana and his fellow craftsman, most of who have been with him for years, build about 30 guitars a month and remain committed to each instrument as an individual. Every instrument is tweaked, shaved and prodded by expert hands. It starts with the wood selection by Dana, a foremost authority on the voicing, selection and utilization of fine acoustic tone woods and ends with each guitar “singing” usually while the entire shop crowds around to hear the pure and balanced tone of another great Bourgeois guitar.

The Al Corey Music Center was established in 1955 growing out of what was originally a small lessons studio. Al moved his store to its present location at 99 Main Street in 1959 and has been supplying the central Maine area with quality musical instruments ever since. Al was born Elias Corey in Waterville, ME. One of ten children born to Lebanese parents, his childhood was characteristic of most depression era children. He began his musical career playing a harmonica given to him by his sister and becoming a member of the Boy’s Club Harmonica Band.

Then one day, hearing a neighbor playing a C melody sax, Al asked to try it, and thus began his love of the saxophone. Al Corey Music Center has been serving the greater Waterville area since 1955. They offer a wide range of musical equipment as well as printed music and accessories. Their staff is well trained and knowledgable. Since 1990 Indiana Guitar Company has been supplying music retailers all over the world with new designs of guitars, amplifiers, banjos, mandolins, strings, cases and gig bags. The company goal is to continue to introduce new models, finishes and designs that are affordable for the beginner but good enough for the pros.

Balaams Music Store

January 11th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 Triad

Balaams Music is a privately owned business, established in 1957, specialising in the supply of Musical Instruments and Music in print and Other Media. Based in the geographical centre of East Anglia, we are also within a mile of the largest warehouse of printed music in Europe The business has strong links with Schools and local authorities in the area, and much of the business revolves around music in education from pre-school playgroup to A-level standards. Stringed instruments have always featured prominently in the Balaams Music inventory, particularly as John Balaam, the proprietor, was trained as a violinist.

There is always a wide range of student instruments available, and particular care and attention is devoted to the setting up of these relatively modest instruments. They want every instrument to give as much pleasure to the player and to the listener as it is capable of giving - that will help to secure their market for the next generation. A workshop on the premises deals with repairs and setting up of stringed instruments, as well as brass & woodwind. The Rental Scheme for children learning to play means that there is always a regular stream of instruments being checked over before going out, and inevitably the odd one coming back after a minor - or major mishap.
