Strait Music Company

June 30th, 2009 Posted in 123 Triad

In 1963 Dan Strait moved his family to Austin, TX from Houston to open a Baldwin piano franchise. He had been working at a Baldwin franchise in Houston for years and when an opportunity opened in Austin, he pounced on it. The company was called Strait Piano and Organ. His motto was Where customers become friends. Slowly, Dan saw the opportunity to expand to a full-line music store, and in 1967 Strait Piano and Organ incorporated and became Strait Music Company. A reputation for good products, good service, and good prices led to a steady growth in business. After surviving the Memorial Day flood of 1981, which nearly sank the business and all of its inventory, Dan decided it was time to turn to his son Robert to manage the store, which he still does today.
